Post Harvest Crew

The focus of this position is with our vegetable production, specifically in our Packhouse

Details

  • Wash, sort, and inspect a variety of vegetables as they are harvested
  • Pack orders for wholesale customers
  • Maintain the quality of harvested items in coolers
  • Work as a team to complete large tasks
  • Follow strict guidelines to ensure food safety
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, organized environment
  • Wash/Sanitize/Clean harvest totes, equipment, workspaces
  • Help Field Crew if need/time allows

Skills Desired

  • High attention to detail
  • Organized
  • Ability to focus & work independently
  • Be able to work at a fast pace for an extended period of time while maintaining excellent quality
  • Be able to stand for 8 hours a day
  • Don’t mind muddy hands/wet clothes and vice versa
  • Be able to lift 40+ pounds repeatedly
  • Have a positive, professional and mature attitude
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Forklift experience is helpful

Schedule, Pay & Benefits

Monday – Friday approximately 40-45 hours a week. The main season is May-December. Winter hours are available to team members exceeding performance goals. Starting pay is $13 per hour, with periodic increases based on performance and experience. Pay could be negotiable based on previous experience. Staff have access to farm produce to take home and use for themselves & households. Car-pooling options may be available from Bloomington, IL. 

Field Crew

The focus of this position is with our vegetable production team. Interest or experience in greenhouse/plant propagation or mechanical farm implements is helpful.

Details

  • Fieldwork including transplanting, seeding, cultivation, mowing, trellising, mulching, pest management, and maintaining irrigation. 
  • Harvest multiple times a week throughout the season as well as large scale mechanical harvest for storage crops in the fall
  • Seed starting & greenhouse work
  • Work with Crew Leaders to accomplish all daily & weekly tasks
  • Assist with post harvest tasks as needed.
  • Follow strict guidelines to ensure food safety

Skills Desired

  • Previous outdoor work experience required
  • Attention to detail in a high paced environment
  • Strive for the highest quality standards while working efficiently
  • Have a positive and supportive attitude
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and be forward-thinking 
  • Ability to lift 60 lbs repeatedly throughout the day, stand for long periods of time, bend, stoop, reach, and work on your hands & knees
  • Ability to work in any type of weather conditions from extreme heat to rain
  • Applicants should find satisfaction in physical, dirty, meaningful and productive work

Field Crew Manager

The focus of this position is with our vegetable production team. The Field Crew Manager works closely with the Farm Manager & Owners.

Details

  • Fieldwork including transplanting, seeding, cultivation, mowing, trellising, mulching, pest management, and maintaining irrigation. 
  • Seed starting & greenhouse work
  • Lead Field Crew in harvest tasks and ensure accurate counts & quality
  • Work as a team with other staff to complete large tasks
  • Motivate, encourage, and provide direction to team members
  • Work with staff, Farm Manager & Owners to accomplish all daily & weekly tasks
  • Assist with post harvest tasks as needed.
  • Follow strict guidelines to ensure food safety
  • Light tractor work

Skills Desired

  • Previous vegetable farm experience required
  • Tractor operation proficiency preferred
  • Attention to detail in a high paced environment
  • Strive for the highest quality standards while working efficiently
  • MUST exhibit a positive and supportive attitude
  • Excellent leadership & communication skills and willingness to develop those skills
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and be forward-thinking 
  • Ability to lift 60 lbs repeatedly throughout the day, stand for long periods of time, bend, stoop, reach, and work on your hands & knees
  • Ability to work in any type of weather conditions from extreme heat to rain
  • Applicants should find satisfaction in physical, dirty, meaningful and productive work
  • Spanish language skills a plus! 

Schedule, Pay & Benefits

Full time April – December with time off around Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. Winter hours are part-time, approx. 25-35 hours per week from February – March. Starting pay is $15 per hour, with periodic increases based on performance and experience. Three paid days off for personal time a year. Pay could be negotiable based on previous experience. Staff have access to farm produce to take home and use for themselves & households. Car-pooling options may be available from Bloomington, IL.
